Google Business Profile for Restaurants: Setup Guide (2026)

When someone searches for food near them, your Google Business Profile is often the first thing they see, before your website or your Uber Eats page. A complete profile turns that search into an order.

Quick answer

Claim your restaurant on Google Business Profile, then fill in everything: the right main category (for example Thai restaurant, not just Restaurant), exact opening hours, your menu, at least ten real photos of your food and place, a short description of what you serve, and an order link to your website or your Uber Eats page. Reply to every review.

Google Business Profile for restaurants

1. Claim and verify your profile

Search for your restaurant on Google. If a profile already exists, choose Own this business; if not, add it. Google will ask you to verify that you own it, usually by phone, email or a short video. Until it is verified, you can't control what it shows.

2. Choose the right main category

Google uses your main category to decide which searches you appear in. "Restaurant" is too general: choose the most specific one, like Turkish restaurant, Pizza takeaway or Café. Add two or three more categories only if they are true.

3. Hours, holiday hours and services

Wrong hours lose customers and bring bad reviews. Add your normal hours, special hours for holidays, and say whether you offer dine in, takeaway and delivery.

4. Your menu and your best real photos

Write two or three sentences about what you serve and where: "Family run Lebanese takeaway in Rochdale: chicken shawarma, falafel wraps and mezze, made fresh every day." Use the words a hungry customer would type.

6. The order button

Add an order link so people can order straight from Google. Point it to your own website if you take orders there, or to your Uber Eats page.

7. Reviews and replies

Ask happy customers for a review, and reply to every review: a thank you for good ones, a calm and short answer to complaints. Our guide on replying to reviews works for Google too. Never offer anything in exchange for a review.

Questions

How do I set up Google Business Profile for my restaurant?

Search for your restaurant on Google, choose Own this business, and verify it. Then add your category, hours, menu, photos, description and order link in the profile editor.

What category should a restaurant choose on Google?

The most specific one that describes your food, for example Pizza restaurant, Thai restaurant or Café. You can add a few more categories, but the main one matters most.

Can I add an Uber Eats link to my Google profile?

Yes. In the profile you can add a link for orders. Point it to your own website if you take orders there, or to your Uber Eats page.

How many photos should a restaurant have on Google?

Start with at least ten real photos: your best dishes, the inside, the outside and your team at work. Add new ones every month, and never use stock or AI food pictures.

Should I reply to Google reviews?

Yes. Thank people for good reviews and answer complaints calmly and briefly. Replies show new customers that you care.
