Uber Eats Menu Modifiers: How to Set Up Options and Add Ons

Modifiers are the choices a customer makes after tapping a dish: the size, the sauce, the extra cheese. Set up well, they make ordering easy and can lift the order value. Set up badly, they cause wrong orders and refunds.

Quick answer

Uber Eats menu modifiers are the options and add ons customers choose on an item, set up as modifier groups in Menu Maker inside Uber Eats Manager. Create a group (for example Choose your sauce), add the options with any extra price, set whether it is required or optional and the most choices allowed, then link the group to every item that uses it. Keep groups short and clearly named so orders come through right.

Uber Eats menu modifiers

What modifiers are

A modifier is any choice a customer makes on a dish. Uber Eats groups them into modifier groups: a group is a question with a list of answers, like Choose your size with Regular and Large, or Add extras with cheese, bacon and avocado.

The useful part: one group can be linked to many items. Make a single Choose your sauce group and link it to every burger, and when you add a new sauce, every burger gets it.

How to set them up in Uber Eats Manager

The buttons can look a little different from country to country, so check the Menu Maker help page for your region. Our guide on editing your menu in Uber Eats Manager covers the rest of the menu.

Required or optional?

Pricing add ons

Add ons are an easy way to lift the order value, as long as the price feels fair. Show the price on each option, and check it against your costs and the Uber Eats commission. Our guide on pricing your menu on Uber Eats shows how to work it out.

Questions

How do I add modifiers on Uber Eats?

In Uber Eats Manager, open Menu Maker, create a modifier group, add the options and prices, set the minimum and maximum choices, then link the group to your items. The exact buttons can differ by country, so follow the Menu Maker guide for your region.

What is a modifier group on Uber Eats?

A set of options shown under an item, like sizes, sauces or extras. One group can be linked to many items, so you edit it once and every linked item updates.

Should a modifier be required or optional?

Make it required when the kitchen cannot make the dish without an answer, like the size or the meat. Make it optional for extras and add ons.

Can I charge extra for add ons on Uber Eats?

Yes. Each option can have its own price, so extra cheese or a large size can cost more. Check the price shows correctly on the item before you publish.

Why are customers ordering the wrong options?

Usually the group names are unclear, too many options are shown, or a needed choice is optional. Rename groups as questions, cut options nobody orders and make the key choices required.
